Dreamweaver was originally created by Allaire Systems and was acquired later by Macromedia. Dreamweaver became a product of Adobe in December 2005 when Adobe acquired Macromedia. When using Dreamweaver, you can edit files locally, which means that you have a copy on your machine or server which cannot be viewed by internet users, and then upload them to the internet thus turning the file into a live page that can be seen by internet users. You can also preview your pages using a locally installed web-browser. Care should be taken, however, to ensure that all browsers your viewers may be using are checked to ensure compatibility, as separate browsers may render pages differently.
Adobe Dreamweaver can be purchased as an individual application or as part of Adobe’s Creative Suite which can include such applications as Adobe Flash, Fireworks, InDesign, PhotoShop, Acrobat and more. The applications that are included in the Suite depend on which version of Adobe Creative Suite you choose to buy. If you are thinking about purchasing Adobe Creative Suite, you may benefit from viewing the section of Adobe's site which helps you decide which version is best for you.
